Satellite Pro 4600 and dLink 624

Another Satellite Pro 4600 works fine on 64 bit and 128 bit.

Noticed that the properties for Preferred Networks has a different
interface on each machine.

e.g on machine that fails Data Encryption (WEP) and Network
Authentication (Shared Mode) are tick boxes on the other machine that
works they are drop down list boxes?

Both XP Pro both up to date with Secutiry patches etc.

Ideas

Both card using same version of driver.

have you installed Service Pack 1 on the machine that is not working
properly?

Both machines have been built to the same level Service packs, pacthes
etc.
One oddity is that the wireless preferred network configuration screen
has a different layout on both machines e.g. on One WEP and Shared Key
otions are checkboxes and on the other (which works) they are drop
down list boxes??

Used same media to build the machines and the wireless driver is same
version on both.

have you applied update 815485?

Hi, I'm having a similar problem too.

Dell Inspiron 4150, with a Dell TrueMobile 1150 wireless
PCMCIA card (all drivers are latest from Dell). Running
WinXP Home Edition SP1 using a 2wire 1000SW DSL Modem/WAP
to connect. I caught a worm, so I reformatted. Before, I
was able to select what type of WEP encryption I wanted
(40-bit, 10-digits, & Hexadecimal) and then enter my 10-
digit WEP key. Now, it asks for the key, but doesn't have
the menus where I used to be able to select different
options. And while I enter in 10 digits, the settings
seem to save it as 8 characters (well, that's how many
*'s there are). What could have caused this? Will 815485
bring back the menus?

Thanks for any help,

John

The key length determine the encryption strength. MS wanted to
simplify it and "just make it work" in SP1

1 ASCII Character=8 Bits

1 HEX Character=4 Bits

40 or 64 bit ASCII WEP code has 5 characters

40 or 64 bit HEX WEP code has 10 characters

104 or 128 bit ASCII WEP code has 13 characters

104 or 128 bit HEX WEP code has 26 characters
