Wireless Connection

the college i attend said they can not set up wireless internet on my new lap
top with windows vista because it is too new? i have to wait for the internet
program to come out? can any one help me to get around this problem .that
would be fantastic!

Hi,
In fact there only can be porblem with drivers to your wireless card. You
should be more specific. You didn't write what exactly is that laptop or
what card is there installed.

Suggestion: check laptop producer's support website.

THere is nothing different. The college you attend do not know what
they're talking about.
 
I hate to say this but I am getting the same exact response from a major
automotive DMS company only difference is this is not a wireless network,
it's wired. They are saying Vista is still to new and is not compatible yet,
when I argue the fact that NOTHING has changed, they say that's not true
they are not completely done testing.. So for the time being my laptop is
cutoff from the network because I use Vista..
 
Then you can show them this thread, where I will plainly state that they are

1. Full of sh*t
2. Totally clueless
3. Should immediately be fired and made to work flipping burgers.

Vista is very different from the point of view of managing a large network.
Group policy settings are different. Servers have to be updated to take this
into account. The firewall is different. Some third party wireless
encryption schemes like LEAP aren't compatible. Most third party VPN
solutions aren't compatible. It will be quite a while before Vista is
supported on some large networks. Heck, some of them still don't have good
XP support. To support a few Vista computers on a network with many servers
and thousands of users is not a trivial task.
 
I have to say that I am attending a major college with a Cisco wireless
network that is using LEAP authentication and I cannot connect to the network
using Vista. I have contacted everyone from windows to the University to the
wireless card company and they all tell me that there are drivers for my
adapter and Vista, but there are no network utilities out that support Vista
and the LEAP protocol. Windows has even said they do not plan to support
LEAP. So if this is suppost to be a line of crap, please help me to set up
my computer to accept LEAP or direct me to a program that is VISTA ready with
LEAP.
