Wireless connection unavailable

I get a continuing cyclic "wireless connection
unavailable" situation on a LAN. I have tested this on
three laptops. Two laptops are identical hardware i.e.dell
I-7000 with Avaya PC cards and different os w98se and xp
pro. The situation does not occur on the w98se os. I have
also tried it on a new dell wireless enabled laptop with
xp pro and it does occur on it. The AP is a Netgear WG602
and all updates are in XP and the AP.

I recently had a similar issue (I think) when upgrading
from XP Home to XP Pro. I am running a Toshiba Satellite
Pro M15-S405 with built in wifi connecting to Linksys
BEFW11S4 v2 (WAP/Router combo). After the upgrade when I
clicked on view wireless connections, the Advanced button
was greyed out and the AP would not recognise the client.
After installing the WPA update (from Windows Update) the
WLAN worked. (I see where you said you have all updates
installed. Make sure this one is in there (you can use
Belarc Advisor to verify (free download))).

If still not working: Make sure the SSID's match on the
laptop and the AP (no brainer but I am a poor typist) on
the AP try turning off WEP and turn on broadcast SSID. On
the laptop under Wireless Network Connection Properties
window, Wireless Networks tab, click the Configure button,
then on the new window click the authentication tab, and
make sure the "Enable IEEE 802.1x" is unchecked. (I have
mine off and it works fine).

If you need to protect this network (it's not just for
websurfing or gaming) then definitely go back and
reimplement security settings.

Hope this helps.

Go Canucks!
