I've tried to setup a wireless connection to a Linksys router that has it's
SSID set to NOT Broadcast.
The problem is - when I setup a network connection and specify that "connect
even if not boradcasting" and "always connect when available.."- it still
doesn't connect .

When I browse to the wireless networks and connect to "Unnamed Network"
providing all the settings - it connects.. .

Then after I restart the PC - no wireless connection automatically and I
have to go throuhg the manual procedure with the "Unnamed Network" again
providing all keys etc.

Am I doing something wrong? Why doesn't it work?

Thank you

Hi Pavel.

1. Is your adapter an Intel 3945? If so please upgrade to build 5728.16384
where a fix has been included.

2. How long do you wait for the connection? In some cases depending on
wireless adapter it can take a few minutes to connect to hidden ssids.

3. If you still have a problem, can you submit wireless logs when your
machine is not connecting? (see instructions below)

4. We do not recommend using Hidden SSIDs as it causes your machine to be
insecure by broadcasting your SSID everywhere that you take your machine.
(Since when you hide the ssid of your network, the only way to connect is
for your machine to the start broadcasting the SSID all the time.) There is
more information available on why this is not secure here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/itsolutions/network/evaluate/hiddennet.mspx

5. Wireless tracing instructions.

- Launch an elevated command prompt (right click on icon and choose "run
as administrator")
- netsh wlan set tra persistent
- Reproduce the problem (just wait 5 minutes if you are not connecting)
- netsh wlan set tra no (make sure this is still in an elevated command
prompt, and wait for the command to complete)
- Tracing results will be in %windir%\tracing\wireless (just attach a
zip file of the dir to your newsgroup post or post somewhere we can access)

First of all thank you for the reply.

1. NO the adapter is not Intel - It is a Trendnet TEW-423PI
2. The adapter never connected itself.
3.If you'd like I can e-mail you the wirelss log. Just let me know to what
address.
4.Frankly it doesn't matter if it is reccomended not to use Hidden SSID -
the fact is - it suppose to be supported and it is not working...

P.S.

While i was writing this email I desiced to go back to basics and start with
the NIC driveres. During the install it installed Marvel Libertas 802.11b/g
Wireless LAN Client Adapter (from Microsoft)

I replaced it with the original driver that came with the card.

It Worked right after I restarted the PC....

WEll I could have thought of the driver from the very beginning...

Thank you anyway
