:
: I currently have three computers connected to a wireless hub with a cable
: modem to the internet. I have three computers (Win2000, Win98, XP Pro) all
: connected. I want to now be able to have an internal LAN and share
printers,
: etc... What is the easiest way to do this? I am hesitant because I do not
: want to interfere with the LAN connection to the wireless
internet...Thanks!
Hi Scott..
Wireless hub is hub/router/firewall? You already have a LAN.
If you want to share files, you'll have to have Microsoft Networking,
NetBIOS over TCP/IP and create accounts on each machine that you use on the
other one. Create shares, assign permissions at the share level (ALL) and
file system level (W2K, XP). W2K/XP should be using NTFS file system.
If you have more ports open on your hub, then it's best to add a Jet Direct
box, unless the printer already has a NIC built in. If you share a printer
off a computer, that computer will have to be on to print and performance
will suffer for this system during printing.
None of this should interfere with connectivity to the Internet. You have a
star LAN. There is nothing to turn on at the hub/router/firewall unless you
have to open up ports for the LAN side so the systems can see each other.
