Windows XP OEM computer, at boot up the wireless zero connection won't start,
if i go to services and start it then go to connections and select it i can
temproarily get a connection, butit will intermitently stop itself and force
me to got hrought the same steps to get it restarted. Also when the wireless
network connection windows start I get the error message "Notification dll
has not been registered program will not work correctly" unfortunately it
doesn't tell me the name of the missing or unregistered dll.

Unfortunately this is a problem that was brought to me by a friend, I have
no idea what events led up to this situation.

Thanks for your ideas.

Are you using the Windows Zero Configuration (WZC) or the Wireless Utility
to manage the connection or Both?
Wireless Troubleshooting: Wireless
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773359.aspx

TRy to use windows Zero Configuration to manage your wireless connection and
disbale the Wirless managamnet utility by the wireless manufacturer.
Open a run command and type in:

regsvr32 atl.dll click [OK]
regsvr32 wltrynt.dll [OK]
ipconfig /flushdns [OK]
ipconfig /renew [OK]
netsh winsock reset [OK]
Reboot your machine and see if the machine will retain connectivity.

Another solution:
Open Run and type in:
regedit.exe click OK and on the Registry Editor Locate this key and change
the value in the Right Pane/window to (2):
[-]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WZCSVC =

[ON]Start REG_DWORD 0x00000002 (2)

[-]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvc =

ON]Start REG_DWORD 0x00000004 (4)

Backup your Registry Keys ( the two keys above only not all the registry)
first.
- What Firewall you using?
- What Encryption method used to secure the Wireless Connection?
HTH,
nass

Thank you,

I made sure the Wireless Zero was the only program running. Ran through the
list and rebooted. everything is working fine now.

That worked great for getting rid of the error messages, but now I can't view
any wireless networks. Any ideas why? Before I corrected the errors, I could
see the networks available but I just couldn't get onto the internet. Now I
can't see any networks at all. Can anyone help?

Here's the million dollar answer to this age old problem. But first and
explanation of what happened and you're gonna kick yourself for not thinking
about it. You may and reinstalled Windows by restoring your system, you may
have left your computer alone for awhile and not used it on the the internet
or possibly you just had a clitch. You may not thought of disconnecting your
computer from your server or cable modem when the changes to your system
occurred. Reinstalling windows, reinstalling your wireless adaptaers or
reinstalling the ethernet will not help you. It's not the software ! Your
communication software doesn't know what you've done like windows does so it
basically it resets itself.

Now we have to reset your wireless connection or your lan connection.
Here's what you do !
Do not type the quote, just the letters between them.

1. From the <cmd> prompt ( start , run, then type " cmd" then enter
2. get to the C:\ (do this by typing "cd ..") then enter. repeat "cd .."
until the c:\ is present
3. type "ipconfig" then enter
4. type "ipconfig /all" then enter
5. type "ipconfig /release" then enter
6. type "ipconfig /flushdns" then enter
7. tpye "i[config /renew" then enter
8. type "ipconfig /registerdns" then enter

Your event log in the administration tools will show you any errors if the
registeration was uncomplete. Usually it will show your license for one year
after the dns is registered successfully.

9. type "exit"

You have now registered your notification dll for the DNS and bye bye
message !

Press the Windows key with "R", or press Ctrl/Alt-Delete and then click

But after doing all these..can you tell me please how can I get my Start menu
back?

Run Explorer.exe from the "New Task (Run..)" area. If that doesn't
work, click the Processes tab, stop Explorer.exe, then run it again.

Also try some of these:

Line 117. Restore Taskbar and Start Menu

Create a new profile. If it shows the Desktop, copy the old profile to
the new one and remove the old one.
