I need someone help as my internet connection only works in safe mode, when
you start it up normally it just says 'Aquiring network address' and doesn't
connect. I tried it with a ethernet cable and i'm in the exactly the same
situation.

But when in safe mode I can connect with no problems, I use the built in
Windows XP wireless connection, no other software installed.

Does anoyone on here have any ideas, all replys welcome as it's really
annoying me!

The main difference between Safe mode and Normal mode is that a lot
more startup programs and Services are running. One of these must
be interefering with your connection.

If you have any Firewall product or VPN client on your machine, try
uninstalling those first to see if that solves your problem.

If that doesn't help, you can try a program such as AutoRuns that
can temporarily inhibit selected programs from starting up and help
narrow down which program is causing the problem.

thanks for the reply, i did a bit more research and found out it was
something to do with zonealarm, if you uninstall it leaves some files behind,
just deleted them, how works!!

the only problem now is my connection goes after about 10 minutes, do you
reckon you can help me?

What type on wireless adapter are you using? I had this problem with
USB wireless adapters (different makes / models) and could not quite
find the problem. However, I found it in the pass two weeks. Turned
out my USB 2.0 PCI add-on card was based on an incompatible chipset
(ALi) for my PC. I've replaced it with a NEC based USB 2.0 card and
everything is working fine.

It sounds like the uninstall might not have been a clean one. If I
were you at this point, I'd try re-installing Zonealarm, reboot, then
un-installing it again followed by another reboot. Maybe it will clean
things up better.

You might also try LSPFix ... it couldn't hurt.
