I went to a conference the other day and I noticed that they had an
"unsecured wireless connection" available. I was able to connect to the
wireless network but when I tried to actually get online [IE, IM, Skype] I
could not connect. I check my TCP/IP properties for everything and they are
all the radio buttons are checked to "Obtain Address Automatically". I have
seen this happen on other machines on my own network and I was able to make
it work because I knew the DNS. However in this instance I didn't. I didn't
try assigning myself an IP address because I didn't know any of the DNS
information for that site.
Anyone have any ideas. Seems to me it must be a pretty simple solution. I
probably have a button checked or unchecked somewhere that I over looked.
