Wireless cards don't work with WEP on VISTA

2 Different wireless cards same problem. If I turn off WEP they work fine.
Turn WEP back on both stop working. Vista recognizes the need to put the pass
code in and I do that. But still will not connect. One card internal Intel
the other PCMCIA Linksys.

anyone have any suggestions.

I've experienced a somewhat trying time with this too, but a possible fix,
which seems to work for my three different wireless locations is the
following: instead of using the passphrase for the WEP key (passphrase =
alphanumeric 26 letters 0-1 number) try using the hexadecimal equivalent.
That should fix your problem. Oh, and give the system a little time to hear
the beacon, even if it is a non-broadcasting AP. (a minute or two?).

I had a hard time making my wireless work with my WEP enabled access point.
There are usually multiple WEP keys that you can define on a access point, by
default key 0 is used. I do not use the default key number and even in the
non-broadcasting wireless setup there is no way to set the key number. After
hours of frustration I found that if I went into the "Arrange Wireless
Networks†and was able to set all of the properties of the wireless
configuration including the WEP key number. Once the key and key number was
set it worked.
