HELP - I want my internet back...

the IP you are indicating is a "Private" ip address
169.254.x.x. this would indicate to me that the wireless
adapter is not functioning properly. I would want to
verify that it was linked to the access point, etc. Try
running the setup routine for the wireless adapter so it
will talk properly to the access point. Then if you are
linked up and can successfully run an ipconfig /release
and ipconfig /renew and get a "real" ip address from your
dhcp instead of the 169 stuff, you should be alright.

Ron,

I am running a small home network. It has a mix of OS's
on it. SO I do not want to mest them up. All of the other
computers on the network are working except for the one I
tried and added the wireless card too.

I removed the Wireless and went back to Hardwire. I still
can not get to the internet on that one computer and the
only way I can get to the home network is to set all the
IP/Subnet/Gateway/DNS addresses myself. There must be a
file that is not letting the "Auto Select" selete the
IP's...

I have gone as far as re-installing W2K (not formating) on
the laptop...No luck

Alan

PS - I did try and "Renew" and got an error message...

:An operation was attempted on something that is not not a
scoket.

I have not idea what that means...
