Hello,
I have just invested in a Wireless broadband setup using a Samsung Wireless
Lan PCI card connected to a rooftop antenna.

I would like the other two desktop PC's in the house..about 10 metres from
the main machine.....to access the net via ICS.

I could network them through a Hub/Switch but the cabling would be
difficult through wall and floors but would prefer a Wireless setup.
How could I do this?

Thanks

Col

Have you considered just dropping a 802.1x AP between the Internet connected
PC and the nodes you want to connect?

Hello Paul,

Excuse my lack of knowledge:

1. How would the AP connect to the PC?
2. Would each node require a Wireless Lan PCI card or could I use USB?

Thanks

Hi Col

Not a problem.

As I understand it, you have a PC connected to the roof top antenna no?

[ antenna ] --- [ PC ] ?

if so you would want the PC to be an ICS host so you could place a wireless
access point behind it

| ~ ~ ~ ~
~ [ PC2 - ICS client ]
[ antenna ] --- [ PC1 - ICS host ] --- [ AP ] ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ [ PC3 - ICS
client ]
| ~ ~ ~ ~
~ [ PC4 - ICS client ]

That way PCs 3-4 can use wireless to access the Internet. Make sure you
configure the AP to be a wireless bridge otherwise your going to find
yourself double natted and many apps will break.

Alternatively you can do homeplug (networking over power lines in your home)

Paul.

Hello Paul,
I have acquired a DLink DWL-900AP and a Netgear WG311 PCI card for the
other machine(s)

So, my questions:

PC1 is the host machine connected to the rooftop antenna
PC's 2 and 3 are the client machines.

Do I install the DLink AP on PC1?
How do I bridge to the existing Samsung PCI card (which is the connection
to the antenna)?

Thanks for your help
