Wireless adaptor

A colleague was recently in Tenerife and there was a free wireless hotspot at
the site but when he tried to connect an error message appeared stating that
'Another application is controlling the wireless adaptor' so he had to
connect via his mobile phone modem.

He does use a wireless connection for his laptop when he is in the office in
the UK. Any help would be appreciated.

A guess, but perhaps they were trying to use the existing connection and not
making a new connection

Wireless network adapters can have two software to control access to
wireless networks. One is provided by the wireless card maker and the
second is Microsoft's Wireless Zero Configuration system You can not
normally use both to control the wireless network access. Nor should
you install in wireless card maker's utility since this may remove the
drivers. Depending on which softrware you want to control the
wireless adapter, you need / should disable the other one.

Thanks very much for your advice - I will check when he's next back in the
office to make sure that he did disable the office connection before trying
to connect to the hotspot. I may be back :-).
