Wireless Adapter does not work in Vista

Hi all,

I just bought a brand new computer that came with Vista. I have removed my
wireless adapter from my old desktop and installed it into my new desktop.

It is a Netgear WG311 v2, 54 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter. It has always
worked fine in my old computer with XP.

I installed the device and the software onto my new Vista computer, and even
though it says everything was installed correctly, and the status is listed
as working properly, it is not in my system tray and I cannot access the
adapter.

Thinking this is a software issue, I went to the NetGear website where they
have driver updates for Vista for many of their products, but not for mine,
the WG311 v2.

I then called Netgear's tech support, where I was denied help because my
"warranty" has expired - I purchased the adapter Feb. 20, 2005. I tried to
explain to the guy that I don't need warranty assistance, the device works
fine, it's a software compatibility issue (I think) and he still said he can
offer me no support due to me purchasing it over 2 yrs ago.

So.. am I SOL? Do I need to go out and spend more $$ on another wireless
adapter that has software compatible with Vista? I've been searching online
and can't find any local stores that carry anything. Or is there anything I
can do to make this one work?

Thank you so much in advance!!

Barring any issues with the setup not being configured properly(e.g. Router, firewall, av program interference)..
Here's Msft list of compatible Wireless Network Cards

Note the list only shows 3 NetGear Products

Thanks Barb...
Until drivers are available or not at all..the op should be able to find a pci nic using the link.

And as you've implied there are nic's in existence that might not be featured on the site but do 'work' in Vista(e.g. my D-Link DWL-G630 laptop card worked from the get go..the only thing I needed to do was set the workgroup name, view available, connect and enter the WPA2/PSK key.

: some NICS night be covered by generic Broadcom or Atheros drivers as
: opposed to the vendors. However as I recall the WG311 V2 uses a
: Texas Instruments chipset and as far as I can tell, there are many
: unhappy folks still looking for a Vista driver.
