For over a year I have been able to access the internet with my laptop via
the ASUS 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Card on my desktop. My desktop connects
through Sprint DSL. OS xp pro. After less than satisfactory upgrade to
xp64bit I reinstalled xp pro (media center) and instead of reinstalling my
Norton internet security decided to go with the new Windows Live OneCare.
Problem: though I can exchange files between shared documents on both
computers I can no longer connect with internet with my laptop. I attempted
to shut off windows firewall on the desktop to see if that was a problem but
no longer have that option as it says, "For your security some settings are
controlled by Group Policy.' What group? I'm the only user and
administrator?" I noticed that under "Advanced" I can change settings to my
"Wireless Network Connection." Right now the following services are checked
as being able to be accessed: DHCP 67, DHCP 68, DNS, UPnP (TCP), and UPnP
(UDP). Should I make a change here? Please advise, it sure would be nice to
connect using my laptop again, for research and upgrades, etc. Thanks, Rick
