I know, I know... it's a Beta.. it's my own fault... I should have used
restore points... BUT I didn't OK!

After installing Antispyware on my laptop I thought, hey that good, it
works. So I installed it on my little DELL desktop, reboot, and hey presto!!!
NOTHING!
After some fiddling, I found out that it had turned off ALL services and set
them all to Disabled... I had to manually start services just to get the PC
working.
Then I had to reset the ones I needed to Auto/Manual and start them up.

Anyone have a list of minimum services I can run on a PC to optimise it?
I'm sure I've started some that I don't really require. Shame, this PC
worked so happily before this...

So--you installed Microsoft Antispyware.

Can you describe what else you did between the installation and the reboot?

Did you update the definitions? Did you scan for and remove anything?

What prompted the reboot---was it part of a removal process, or just a
routine end of the day shutdown?

This would be unique in my experience of this beta--and I've been here from
pretty close to the start.

I'm not sure the best way to get the services jiggered back to the
defaults--I think I'd do a repair install, if your installation media allows
for that. You can call Dell to find out, or, you can also call Microsoft's
PSS.

If, in fact, you removed some spyware, and this effect happened after the
restart---you can call 1-866-pcsafety (In the U.S. and Canada) and get help
extricating yourself from this fix. They can't advise you about the beta
program--that's unsupported--but if this incident is the result of cleaning
spyware using the beta program--they can help.

If you need to reset your services, go into msconfig, then click tab
"Services", then enable all, then click OK. It should reset all services
back to default.

Are you sure this works for services set to disabled? I don't think it is
that smart--services set to disabled are not shown in MSconfig on my machine,
and I don't believe it knows whether a given service is set to manual or
automatic by default.
