Didn't there used to be a free version of winzip?
Thanx

I don't think so. IIRC, Winzip was always shareware & will probably be
for many years to come.

Your Welcome. And there is a great freeware alternative to Winzip which
is called Quickzip & you can download it from http://www.quickzip.org/
.. Quickzip is my current archiver & it is great & it supports the 7-Zip
file compression which compresses better than Zip, Rar, Ace, et al.

Never a free version but free upgrades for life that is until Corel bought
it out (from Niko Maki the author). I've had it since the original version
way back and have not gone to V10 because I would have to pay for the
upgrade and the limited new features does not justify doing so.
So, until Corel gives a good reason, there are many free zip programs that
are just as good or even better.

I used to have winzip about 2 years ago. I just don't rememebr buying it.
That's why I assumed it was free, but when I searched for the free version I
couldn't find it. Now I know why.

Ditto here.

I agree with everyone that it has never been freeware, but I have seen
the shareware version on several computers. The time limit doesn't
seem to run out although you have to live with the obnoxious adds. At
least the computers I've seen it on appeared to have it installed for a
long time. Personally, I think there are better freeware alternatives.
