I have Win XP Pro and am having problems using Winzip 8.1 to access Zip files and my PC haning up when I view folders with zip files in them..... Damn XP wants to tell me all the files in a 400MB ZIP file

Also When I try and copy a Zip file from one PC to another I sometimes get 'Access Denied' or I cannot delete or rename the Zip file if it exists on the HD of the computer I'm using. I can only delete it by starting in safe mode

The XP zip util is too slow to use so I don't bother

Any Ideas?

Hi Eugene,

Try this:

Go to Start > Run and type:
regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll
regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

Hope this helps

the above causes the XP default zip handler to be re-activated, which is
NOT what the user asked for.

It sounds like you've [Eugene] got things configured sort of
half-and-half, I would reinstall Winzip to make sure it's setup correctly,
and BE SURE to make winzip the default .zip file handler (setup should ask
you this, and the winzip options dialog will let you set this after the
fact too [file-extensions tab; I usually check them all, except perhaps
CAB files].) When done correctly, whenever you open a zip file it should
open in winzip, and not in an explorer window.

Your "access denied" problem is unrelated, that zip file is in a folder
that you don't have permission to access, and/or the file is not "owned"
by you.
