WinXP Won't Connect to Servers Other than the Primary Server

Dave

I have two Dell Latitude D600's and one Dell Latitude D400
running WinXP with all of the Microsoft patches and
service packs applied. I am networked with about 500
other Dell Latitude notebooks and Optiplex desktops
running Win2000.

WinXP connects just fine to the primary server, but after
10 to 15 minutes, you can no longer connect to other
servers around the company. When I try to attach to
another server, a box pops up asking me to type in my
login name and password. When I try to do this, I receive
the following message:
"The username you have typed is the same name as the
username you logged on with. That user name has already
been tried. A domain controller cannot be found to verify
that user name." I can log in with administrator, but
then I have to type it in with every other server I want
to connect to.

None of our Win2000 PC's have any trouble connecting to
any other server at any time. We have just started having
this problem on our new Dell D400 and D600's running
WinXP. I also received the error that "The trust
relationship between the workstation and the server has
been lost" when I try to create a new ID on the D400
notebook. We have a mixed environment of Windows 2000
servers and NT 4.0.

I tried adding "net config server /autodisconnect:-1" to
the registry, but this didn't help.

Once I log off and log back on, I can then connect to
servers other than my primary server for about 10 to 15
minutes.

Thanks for your help.

Dave,

Are you running AD on a Win 2000 server or do you have a NT 4.0 PDC?

BTW : One thing to check. If you are running a NT 4.0 PDC then check to
make sure "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" is checked in the network settings of
your nework adapters.
