When I purchased my Compaq Presario 5080US, it had WinME
already installed. When I found that WinME wasn't the best
of O.S.s I installed a WinXP Home Edition upgrade.
The other day, when I tried to boot the system, I was
unable to. Even after trying to boot the following:
MicrosoftvWindows XP Home Edition and
Microsoft Windows XP Setup
I was only able to get it to run as far as the:
"Windows XP Home Edition" window.
Upon trying the "F8" route, I tried the following options:
Safe Mode
Last Known Good Configuration
Debugging Mode and
Start Windows Normally
all brought me to the:
Window XP Home Edition window
and then the:
"Checking file system on C:" page. The check reported
that there was no problems found. After this check, the
system reboots and starts the above steps all over.
If I let the system reboot by its self,to automatically
choose "Windows XP Setup", it goes to:
"Insert the CD labeled:
Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM
into your CD-ROM drive.
Press ENTER when ready"
Upon inserting the "Windows XP Upgrade" CD, I press ENTER
and get the following:
"Setup cannot locate the Windows installation you want
to upgrade. Contact your System Administrator."
As you can see, nothing I have tried works. Please advise
me on what will help.
