After downloading a batch of MS updates, I was "gifted"
with the Welcome screen to sign in with. I have never had
this before and i would like to know how to get rid of it
(and I presume it is possible).

TIA

Log on to an account with Administrator privileges (if you have just one
user then it is an admin account) Go into Control Panel->User
Accounts->Change way users log on off->check Use Welcome Screen

This happens after installing the .NET Framework update from Microsoft.
Follow Harry's advice to bypass the Welcome Screen.

Thanx to Harry and Ramesh for the info. The Welcome
screen is gone BUT I still get a log-in screen that I
never had before (I know, it is just an extra step for
protection, but I am the only user of this computer). If
I were to delete the .NET Framework update, would this
put my computer back to its original state when it used
to boot up & into my desktop?

TIA (again)

Rob,

Harry's advice will disable the Welcome Screen only (not for automatic
logon)

To autologin in XP:

Click Start, Run and type "control userpasswords2", and click Ok. Uncheck
"Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer"
option, and click Ok.
