Sorry for the delay in replying... I too have been experiencing this
problem since 2005, but curiously, it only after changing XP SP2
clients onto a W2k3 domain. It also seems worse at some of our remote
locations (with bandwidths of 256KB or so).
OK, recently I found a fix.....
There is an option in GPO "Always wait for the network at computer
startup and logon" under Computer Settings->Administrative Templates-
Once this is enabled, the home directories start to map correctly.
