In these days I'm experiencing a strange problem with a direct serial
connection between an Xp and a Win98 computer.
I was able to establish the connection but in no way I can have access to
the shared drive on Win98 Host machine from XP. In fact it is impossible
even to ping a computer from the other altough I can see the correct IPs on
the WinXp Connection Dialog Box (for instance 192.168.72.1 Host and
192.168.72.2 for Guest...).

Is there anyone who can suggest me where I can found the detailed procedure
to make the connection working or is aware of connection problems between XP
an 98 ?

I thank you in advance for your help,

Newcomsas

xp CONNECTION TO w98

Hi
I would love to hear how you even managed to establish a connection between a 98 machine and an XP machine using a serial cable.
In answer to your prob - I did notice on one site that the drive had to be shared as C$ in order to be seen.
Wish I could say this is definately the answer but sadly I'm not as far along joining machines as you are

The Advanced network connection setup wizard in XP allows a Host/Guest function in network connections, however as julien states I don't expect it is intended for use with 98...it may be best to download a piece of 3rd party networking software for the 98 machine (the MS stuff was never the best) thats if it is possible at all (it will be damn slow if it works!). I think the XP machine assumes the guest connection IP even though it may not be present...
