alrighty I have Pioneer DVD burner, 105, and also a CDRW
burner. When installing the Dvd burner windows startup
would stall. I have tried several different things:
set as
primary master - cdrw, s
econdary master - Harddrive,
primary slave - aother hard drive,
Seconday slave - DVD burner
still had windows stall
then hooked up the cables HD and one burner, and then
second hard drive with other burner - still stalls
Bios reads it, device manager shows everything is there
but windows still stalls on start up. I can boot into
safe mode but not normal mode. Have tired with out the
dvd burner hooked up at all, nothing. I have reinstalled
windows on my promary hard drive but didnt work. Also
tried with just hard drives and no burners.
The weird thing is I hooked up my dvd burner to my old
computer and no problems. there is also a cd burner in
there too. I can think of anything else to try. anyone
have any other suggestions??

Hi Amy,
What BIOS is installed on your main board?? Did you
try to first tweak the settings of that BIOS, or see if
the manufacturer has an upgrade that you can flash that
puppy with?? Unless they specify that it';s NOT an XP
compatible BIOS, I wouldn't try that. Just try to tweak
the IDE settings in your existing BIOS. I found on mine
(Award 11.1) that I get best performance with Plug-n-Play
OS = NO; CD and DVD drives set to AUTO; Primary (Boot)
Hard Drive with the MANUAL SETTINGS entered; and my
secondary (non-Boot) Hard Drive on the Auto setting. For
some strange reason, I get much faster boots and disk I/O
with this setup. Also... if you're board has any Bus
Master or SMART (yeah, right!!) installed, try enabling
and disabling them in different combinations, starting
with them ALL OFF. It's a crap-shoot, I know... but what
are you gonna do??
