I use windows XP Pro on an E-Machines T1300 with 512mb
ram. Sometimes in the middle of the night my computer just
starts up all by itself. Whats up with this.

Perhaps it's hungry?

Here's something more likely to check: Open Device Manager and open the
properties of your NIC. One of the tabs is called Power Management. Uncheck
'Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby'.

Thanks Tom, but that wasn't it. My NIC card settings were
already as you had stated. The other interesting thing is
that the computer is not in standby mode, but is actually
off. Any other Ideas?

If your computer is powered off, only another human being who can push the
power switch can turn it back on. Are you sure your computer is really
powered off? Some computers go into standby when you press the power button.
Check the settings in the Power Options applet of Control Panel.

Terri;
Go to the BIOS.
Look for something like "Wake on LAN" or "Wake on ring", normally in
Power section.
Disable them.
