Hi,

i purchased Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS (500GB) and installed it into my existing system. I then did a clean install of windows xp professional edition (sp3 also installed).

Now my pc shuts down properly but does not power off any more. I suppose my new hard drive is responsible because it is the only thing changed in my configuration.

PS:

1. i already did a firmware update

2. there is no APM tab in my Power Options any more (it exists in my old drive-windows installed)

any suggestions?

tnx a lot

already read this article

hi and tnx for the reply. I already read this article. As I said before, first (when winxp was installed on my old drive) there was no problem and APM tab did exist. Suddenly, when I installed winxp on my new drive (but on the very same hardware configuration) APM tab is not present and my pc is not powering off anymore.
Maybe it is important to say that my old drive is an IDE drive and my new one is a SATA.

tnx again

... therefore you know what the problem is then. :thumb:

If you change the default power settings in the BIOS, it can lead to a powerdown problem. Restoring all BIOS power settings to default will likely/may/possibly fix it.

Have you installed all the relivent drivers? You get SATA drivers with the MB, not the HD.

When Windows XP won’t powerdown automatically, the APM/NT Legacy Power Node may not be enabled. To enable this, right-click on the My Computer icon, click Properties | Hardware | Device Manager | View. Check the box labeled “Show Hidden Devices.” If it’s available on your computer, there will be a red X on the APM/NT Legacy Node. Try enabling it and see if this resolves the powerdown problem.
A breakdown of hardware, especially MB, may help me. ;)

hi again and tnx for the answers...
i installed all drivers for my motherboard. the only thing to check is for new drivers.
but, there are no hidden devices in the device manager.. already ckecked this, too...

I'll ckeck for new drivers but I don't think that the problem is there

tnx muckshifter
