WinXP setup

I have one simply question. I'm trying to know if I accidentally
delete all the data in hark disk before I install winXP pro.

Does winXP setup delete all the previous data in hard disk?

Depends, doing a "Recovery install", reinstalling Win XP Pro
over Win XP Pro, will not, but only with "Recovery install".

If you do a format when installing, then you will lose
everything on the hard drive.

What operating system is currently on the hard drive ?

Win98 was on the system. I installed winxp as new install not upgrade
one. I realized that the all the date in winxp drive ("d" drive) iped
out. I know that I did not formated at all.
