WinXP Setup won't run in DOS?

I've just replaced my mb and processor, and am trying to reinstall Win XP
after formatting my drive - At least I think I formatted it. Right now I
have started up with a Win 98 boot floppy, and am trying to run setup from
my Win xp CD Rom. When I do, I get an error message saying that setup can't
be run in DOS mode. What's the problem here?

Thanks,

Jack

John Brown:
Set your computer up to boot from the CD rom. Win XP has a bootable CD so
you need to use it to get started.

WRONG. At command prompt, change to CROM drive letter. Type:

cd i386
winnt

You don't need the start up disc. Put the cd in the drive and reboot.

the above method will work
but you need to modify your boot disk by adding and loading smartdrv
