Is there an entry in the Registry that assigns the SMTP Port number?

NOT for a specific application, the default SMTP Port number.

who knows...?

but what you can do
is to open the registry
and use the find menu
option to find that term.

you can do the same
at microsoft.com

incidentally you can use a
freeware called siw and
see all your ports.

Been there, done that.

If there are entries for SMTP port assignments in the Registry, they
are not clear. What I can see are connected to specific apps and no
entry seems to specify an actual port number. The entries seem to be
for the app to _use_ a TCP protocol like SMTP.

And, I did try searching "TCP." Got even more confusing hits.

yeh, it can get confusing.

it is a subject that has
little interest for many of us
on this newsgroup. so i don't
have much more to offer.

perhaps this might be
helpful:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMTP

also, you might simply post
the question to the experts
who may deal with smtp
on a daily basis like on the
exchange server newsgroup:

-----------

as a suggestion you might want
to repost your question there
and also crosspost it here as well.

(to crosspost, just include this
newsgroup address with the other,
separating them with a comma)

the response you get, if any
will be interesting...
