I have an XP Pro computer reporting the following error
in the System log during startup...
"Your computer was not able to renew its address from the
network (from the DHCP Server) for the network card...The
following error occurred: The operation was canceled by
the user. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain
an address on its own from the network address (DHCP)
server."
It does eventually renew its lease on its own (after
startup), but what is causing this error? I had to
disable APIPA on this computer to get around a logon
script problem this was creating (the temp address APIPA
assigned, didn't match my network, so it didn't find a
domain controller and run my scripts). With APIPA
disabled, it continues to use its old leased address, but
still reports this error in the system log (and has to
renew the lease after startup).
It's an NT4.0 domain... "Ipconfig /renew" works fine when
run manually...it will renew during startup if I /release
before restarting...removing and re-adding the NIC didn't
help..."netsh init ip reset" didn't help...
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.
