WINXP PRO wil not install

I have presently Windows Pro XP and want to repair or re-install the
Internet Explorer from the original MS Windows XP Pro CD.

I selected in the bootup process the CD to be the first and it goes there.
It sees the original CD, goes through the normal hardware and system checkup
but then does not go any further. It is at the install stage but stays there
for hours. I never was able to go beyond it.

I cannot install the original CD from within Windows XP PRO since with the
many updates it says the system on the computer is newer than the CD and
gets out of the installation process. That is understandable but why not
from the CD BEFORE it boots up to Windows XP PRO???

In the past I have occasionally done this without any problems.

For the last problem, simply make a slipstreamed XP CD with SP2
included. This is very easy to do. I like AutoStreamer, but there are
other methods:

How to slipstream sp2 into XP

- AutoStreamer

For the first problem, do hardware troubleshooting since faulty hardware
is the usual cause of failure to install an operating system. Here are
general hardware troubleshooting steps:

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts
with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA).

first check whether "virus protection" is enabled in BIOS. If it is, it
will cause errors that seem very similar to yours. Basically it keeps
any software from messing with the MBR, with no exceptions, including
the windows installer.
This might not be the answer you need, but if it is it'll take maybe 15
seconds to ID and fix.

To repair IE you hardly have to reinstall XP

I read that section before I posted and went to Regedit and found the key
etc etc. but NOT the value about which they talk in that article.

Can you see whether you have Value ?

Boot sector virus protection is disabled.

But I can still not install.

Stays at the blue background for System Setup. (for hours)

Power supply? Optical drive(s)?

Perhaps a better course of action for you would be to take the machine
to a local professional. Someone who can see the machine may be able to
diagnose the issue very quickly. For some problems hands-on is really
the best way to go.

You may be right re take it to the computer shop. BUT all things seem to
work fine except this lack of Windows Setup continuing.

It is a OEM edition. I did not notice or say that before, but not an
upgrade, a total new installation CD.

PS and Optical drives work fine. I had this computer built to my specs (and
all hardware components upgraded, only some few months ago.

So, I still want to see whether someone here just happens to have an idea
before disconnecting all things and hauling this computer to the shop.

Especially since all other things work except when I use Scottrade's Elite
Edition, which works fine on the laptop with XP Home edition.

that particular info was for XP and XP sp1
so it's probably not to be used with sp2

speaking of which: have you tried using alternative optical drives? if
you've been trying it in your DVD-Rom, try in your CD-R instead (if
applicable, of course).
