I am trying to install WinXP-Pro in a dual-boot configuration, with Win98Se,
on a Gateway G6-400(upgraded) computer and cannot get past the file copying
segment. Apparantly, when the system tries (I think) to reboot prior to
converting it crashes with a black screen and vertical colored bars. No
error condition is displayed.

The system has a Powerleap 1.2mhz. cpu upgrade, 256mb of memory, 2 hard
drives (the second of which is the intended SP drive) a 350w power supply
and runs trouble free under Win98Se. The BIOS has been upgraded to the most
recent version, which Gateway says is valid for all OS's, and the WinXP
upgrade report indicated some minor application software discrepancies but
no hardware conflicts or incompatibilities.

I only received one error condition regarding an active anti-virus which has
since been de-activated.

Does anyone know of any way to isolate or resolve the problem?

TIA
Tom

Rich, My attempt is to load XP on a seperate drive ie. Win98 on C:, WinXP
on D: and Data on E: (a partition on drive 0 with the C: drive).
