Okay... I think I know the answer to this, but I'm going to ask it anyway.

One of my older computers is failing, so I'm going to be getting a new
system, but it has no hard drive in it. What I want to do is remove the
working drive outta that computer that has Windows XP installed already on
it, and place it into a new computer system (either pre-built or custom built
by me). My question is, do I still have to purchase another license
altogether, or will I be okay without having to purchase a license (which
would be another $269.00 that I don't have right now)? All I am doing
essentially is taking a working hard drive out of a computer system that is
going down the tubes and placing it into a more stable system.

Any constructive feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

The XP in your old HD is it an OEM or a Retail version. If it is an OEM then XP dies
with your old computer and you need to purchase another XP. If it is a Retail
version of XP then you can do a Repair install when booting the new computer with
the Old drive

I'm fairly sure it's not OEM. How would I be able to tell?

Right-click My Computer > Properties and look in Registered to: If there is
an OEM in there you're out of luck.
