Anybody else having trouble with WinXp on a Win2k network? This is the second box (Dell, HP) where it seems WinXP doesn't play well with Win2K. I have no problems with Win2k, but XP takes forever to load, sometimes doesn't recognize domain users w/o a hard reboot, Add/remove programs doesn't work, system restore doesn't start, right click My Computer and select properties and nothing happens,... the list goes on and on. This on machines with WinXP loaded by the manufacturer. If it was one I might believe it was a lemon but two from different companies? It's gotta be WinXP.

First thing to start with is to make sure the XP clients are configured to
point to the DNS server on your LAN that hosts the domain SRV records and
NOT to an ISP DNS server.

You should post in a Servers and/or a Networking newsgroup for networking
problems with.

You did ensure that you got XP Pro didn't you? XP Family does not support
logging into a Domain.

Both Machines are WinXP Pro.
They both receive IP addresses and DNS servers through DHCP.
Just to check I ran ipconfig and they are getting the correct information for DNS - the Win2K server.
I will repost to a Networking group.
I really would like to talk to someone about this at Microsoft, but I'm not willing to pay for something I feel should run correctly. If it was something I did and goofed up, that's one thing, but this clearly is an issue that was there straight out of the box. If I were sure that there would be Win2K drivers available for the hardware in these new machines XP would already be gone from those boxes. Maybe this is Microsoft's way to force an upgrade to Windows Server 2003.
