I have a WINXP PRO SP1 with all updates and it can no
longer connect to the domain. It takes approx. 40 minutes
to complete the login process, however it only loads a
temp profile and thats it. After an entire day trying to
fix this, I took the machine home, wiped it clean,
installed the os and all updates, gave the system a
different name, different ip, different username and still
the same thing, the computer joins the domain fine and
local logins to the machine work fine but when you try to
log on to the domain, this happens. The offending system
logs event id 40961 No Auth Protocol avail., and 40960
Detected an downgrade attack....No logon servers availible?

Please Help, and thanks in advance.

I would check the DNS settings first.

I checked the Dns settings, everything there looks fine,
anything else?

When you say fine, what DNS server is the XP box pointing to?
It must be the internal one for the domain, not an external ISPs one.
