I bought a new gaming computer and we needed to load the
Windows OS on it.

We have the original Windows Home XP we purchased about 6
months ago for the old computer that no longer works.

When we boote up and start to load the OS the windows
program says "Hit F8 key if you agree" [to the microsoft
agreement]. When we hit the F8 key to agree it will not
do anything. We tried 2 different keyboards to make sure
it was not the keyboard. We also tried the USB port with
a keyboard and it won't do anything there.

We can use "page up" and "page down" keys to read the
agreement and we can use the escape for if we do not
agree, so what do we do now to get the windows program to
load?

We'd appreciate help on this.

Thanks,

Angelynne

Wow. I didn't know that. His old computer did die.

$200 for 6 mths use? Hmmmmm. Bummer,I'm in the wrong
business.

Thanks,
Angelynne

Although I doubt this has anything to do with your
present problem you should be aware that the Windows XP
OS that you purchased can only be activated on one
computer only. Once activated the records are kept and an
acitvation file is placed in your windows\system32
folder. This is heavily encrypted by MS. You have to
purchase another copy of XP to install it on a second
machine. That even goes if you machine blows up and is no
longer working. 1 copy of XP per machine. Sorry. {:~)can count and those that can't.

The message you are replying to is *not* correct. Retail copies
*can* indeed be transferred to another computer; the only
restriction is that they can not be installed on two computers at
the same time.

Your message didn't make it clear whether you had a retail copy
or an OEM copy. If it's an OEM copy, then the restriction
mentioned below is correct. The license for an OEM copy ties it
permanently to the first computer it's installed on and it can
never be moved to another. However you said you paid $200 for XP
Home? At that price, you probably bought a retail version, not an
OEM one; the OEM version is cheaper, because it comes with such
restrictions.

That limitation on transferability applies only to the OEM versions of
Windows XP.

Did you scroll all the way to the bottom of the license agreement?
Sometimes that is used to trigger the acceptance option.

Try a PS/2 keyboard or enable USB support in BIOS. Different BIOS versions
will list the USB keyboard support with different wording. Look for options
similar to "USB Legacy Support" or "USB - Keyboard"
