Where are the MS WinXP update files located on the hard drive.
I have mistakenly downloaded but didn't install one update, I wish to
delete it.Any suggestions on how I can find it and delete it?.

TIA

Hi,

Generally you will find them in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder.

Hi,

folder.

Thanks Rick, after looking in that particular folder I guess I need a
bit more info on finding the actual upgrade download and how to go about
deleting it.
It's the WGA Valadation Tool, KB892130 (btw I don't see
any file so identifide) that I want to get rid of....I can only assure
you I have a valid copy of WinXP, it's only after reading the amount of
problems some people have encountered even though they have valid copies
that makes me want to delete this particular download error I made.
Any advice other than installing it?(G)

Hi,

Deleting the downloaded installation files wouldn't remove the update. You
would need to unistall it via the Control Panel/Add & Remove with the option
to see installed updates enabled. Or you could run the spuninst.exe file in
the Windows directory in the compressed backup of the update.

Hi!
I had the same problem, and the solution I chose was to go back to a
restore point before I downloaded the stuff. There is choice to contact
MS, and I did so but it is so convoluted and timeconsuming, let alone
trying to prove to some ...hole that you are not a thief, that going
back was the quickest option. By the way, I'm sure you cannot just
uninstall it.
(this was here in Australia, maybe it's different in the USA)

Rick, the downloaded update was not installed, the installation of the
download was stopped before installation. It's just that each time I go
to the MS Update page to check for updates it says this particular file
has been downloaded and is ready for installation, so it doesn't show up
as an installed update under the Control Panel/Add & Remove option.

I suppose I could go that route, never ever used the restore option
before and I have installed other software since I made the mistake of
downloading but not installing the file.
It's no real problem just a PITA that each time I go to the MS Update
page it tells me this file has been downloaded and is waiting to be
installed.(G)

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
