WinXP freezes at everytime during 'Windows Is Now Starting' screen

Hi,

My computer and XP has been freezing everytime I boot up Windows XP at the
'Windows Is Now Starting' screen.

My temporary solution to this is by rebooting and using 'Safe' mode and
doing a System Restore. However this problem re-occurs again every single
time, after the shut down and restart. System Restore doesn't seem to work

Can someone point me in the right direction ? Is there a problem with my
registry

Many thanks,
Dinesh

There are several things you can do. You say that you can get into safe mode.
When in there go>start\run and type in msconfig and then click the boot.ini
tab and then the "check all boot paths" button. If you have a bad boot record
this should find it and prompt you to write a new one. If this doesn't work
you can go>start\run and type in sfc /scannow and have your xp disc ready to
put in when asked. This will do a System File Check and replace missing or
corrupt OS files with the originals found on the disk. You can also run a
chkdsk /r . This will do a check of your disk and repair\recover any bad
sectors. Please notice that after the orignal command you need to put a space
before the forward slash. As a last resort you may have to go into the
recovery console and type in fixboot and then hit enter on your keyboard to
write a new boot record. Post back if after the attempts in Safe mode, you
still are having problems.
