WinXP Explorer crashes

Hi,
This problem has been posted before, but never with much detail and all of
the suggested fixes have been ineffective.

Explorer will suddenly close, usually after doing something like opening a
file directory. There is no windows error message. Explorer will restart and
about half of the system icons in the lower right will have disappeared. I
realize that I can simply log off and log back in, but I'd rather fix the
problem if possible.

This has been going on for a few weeks now. My windowsupdate is up-to-date.
No viruses or spyware on my system. Any advice would be most appreciated

Regards,
Matthew Clark

Matthew:

I feel your pain. I have had this issue for about a year and I have
followed numerous threads in this NG with no resolution. The curious thing
is I have two almost identical computers (XP Pro, same mobo, video processor
and memory and generally the same apps), one exhibits the behavior, the
other does not. I have just learned to live with it.

Just a shot in the dark, is your system or has it ever been, a dual boot??

Jay

One time long ago it was a duel boot Win98 and Win2k system... I deleted the
old OS when I installed XP.
