Many Windows XP users are reporting this bug. This
happens regularly on all 5 of my machines, all with
different motherboards, cpus, cdrom drives etc. This is a
genuine Windows XP bug. I don't know if this is the
correct place to report it, or if MS employees actually
read these pages, however just in case they do, this is a
bug that definately needs fixing. It even occurs when
there is no CD in the drive.

Yep, see it all the time. But only when I put a CDR/W in the drive, put a
packet CD in the drive without packet SW running or in some other manner
screw up.

Never saw it happen without a disk in the drive, never saw it happen with a
pressed disk (unless I put a DVD in the CDROM drive). Sometimes it happens
if I have a bootable CD in the drive but boot from the HD.

Not a significant issue...
