Hi,
This is a strange thing, with the same Hardware & CDs,
Windows XP fails to read my CD-Rs.

It either keep looking for the disk, or just give me a
blank CD after trying for a while (but most of the time
it is the 1st case).

On the other hand, the same CDs with the same hardware
works fine (on the same PC) with Windows 98.

BTW, I noticed this on several PCs....

Strange, right?

Does any one know what is the proplem and how to deal
with it?

Please advice....
Thanx

Dr. Sherif

I am having the exact same problem all of a sudden with
Windows XP. Its been working fine for the past year.
Now all of a sudden I can not read my CD-R's with Windows
XP on my home computer. I take it to work and Window 98
and the other Windows XP computer can read the CD just
fine.

My diagnosics say the hardware is working properly. I am
however getting error messages in the "Advanced System
Information" Error logs.

I have updated my drivers and still get error messages
only when I call up the well hidden Error Log.

I wonder if one of the newest patches did this to me.
Just started happening as of July 2, 2003.

Advanced System Information Screen and the Error Log page
says. Date of event; cdrom; The device,
\Device\cdRom0, bad something.
The second error messages say: Date of event; Event
System; Report this to Microsoft Product Support Service.

But I don't know how to report it to MS!

P.S. CD-RW's and music CD work just fine. It is just the
CD-R as Sherif has discribed above.
