Hello:
When I use WinWord and click on any of the Menu's across the top all that
happens is I get a real faint line around a blank box. Right click, left
click it does not matter. Also if I have several browser windows open but
minimized and I click on them they do not open, I get the same faint line
around a blank box, but if I right click on the browser's than I get and
option to cascade vertically or horizontally and that will open the browser
windows. I have never had this problem before. I hope some one can help me
with this problem. I re-installed WinWord and it did not help.

I was guessing that the problem could be with keyboard. So, why don't you
unplug your keyboard for a moment and then try running those applications and
see if they work fine.

If yes, then you need to clean your keyboard with a brush.

Let us know!

Hello RajKohli: No I diconected the keyboard and I have the same problem. I
even uninstalled Winword and re-installed, same problem, it must be a
setting somewhere in windows that needs to be changed.

I tried on this my PC and get the same results as you were talking about. The
same fait line with a blank box and minimized IE windows do not restore. What
I did is turned on the Sticky Key option. Then I block the CTRL and ALT key
by pressing them twice. See if the same problem is with you too.

1. Click Start - Control Panel - open Accessibility options.
2. Uncheck "Use Sticky Keys" option, if it is already check.

I hope this was the cause of the porblem. Let us know!

Hello RajKohli: I tried the sticky key thing and it was not checked but I
did check it and found out what it does anyway, I then un-checked it again.
I still have the faint lines on all the menus in Winword and even if I right
click anywhere on the document I get a box with a faint line. I think the
menu bar is locked, but I have no idea how to un-lock it. I found out that
my task bar was locked and that was causing the faint line on the desktop
when I had several browser windows minimized.

Please let us know which version of Microsoft Word you are currently using.
If you don't know how to check it then run Microsoft Word then take a look at
the first Word Logo screen. The version will be displayed there like
Microsoft Office Word 2003 version 11.3.

1. Are you using beta version of Microsoft Office or not? Make sure that it
is not expired.
2. Is this problem is happening with all the documents?
3. Can you use the toolbar buttons like New - Open - Save etc or they are
too disabled or not working?
4. Do all the other program menus are working fine?

Let us know!

Hello RajKohli: The CD says version 2002, the menus in Winword does not work
so I can't get any more information from the program. The file version when
I check the property for the CD is 10.0.2627.0

Hello RajKohli:
I tried all of the tips in the those websites and it did not help. I also
have the same problem when I go to "Start" "Programs" and whatever menu I
put my mouse pointer on I get an empty box with the faint line around it. I
have run the latest antivirus and deleted all of the small free programs
that I had on my computer like Core Temp, Speed Fan, etc. and nothing has
helped. You are a very smart guy, where did you learn all these tips to
try? I am about to the point of nuking the whole disk! I have a Maxtor
external backup so I have all my data, but it is still a two day job to
re-install all of my software. I have 4 GBs of Crucial Laser PC8000 ram on
here and 32 bit windows only uses 3.2 GBs. What problems would I have if I
changed to 64 bit Windows XP? Would my 32 bit software still work?
Ed

Sorry it didn't help. But before you go for a complete reinstallation, why
don't you try System Restore from Start - All Programs - Accessories - System
Tools.

Further, I don't know much about the Windows XP 64 Bit hardware requirements
but I am sure that you will not be able to install it if you don't have 64Bit
Processor. I don't think that there is any concern between Windows XP 64 Bit
and your RAM. What you need to check is your Processor?

You are mentioning that you have 4GB of RAM and Windows XP is using 3.2GBs.
I don't think that Windows is using that much amount of RAM. From where you
have checked the usage. Is it the RAM usages or Hard Disk Space?

For further details about Windows XP 64 Bit, see the link below. Everything
you need to know about 64Bit version is there.

I learn everything of my own. I am self paced man. Moreover, Internet helped
me a lot. I learn a lot of Computer Magazines too but my current favorite is
GOOGLE. Whenever I need anything about Computers, I got it at Google.

Give a try to System Restore and before reinstallation don't forget to take
a Backup of your data.
