Hello, all.

I have an interesting problem that I have been ignoring, but it seems to be
getting worse. I use MS Outlook 2002 (10.2627.2525) for mail with two
different mail servers, and MS Outlook Express 6 (6.00.2800.1123) for usenet
newsgroups. In my Outlook I have Norton 2002 antivirus scanning outgoing
messages.

Whenever I send an email, or post a message like this one, after a few
seconds, and after the outgoing message antivirus window goes away, the
outlook, outlook express, and anything I might have open in MS Word locks up
for anywhere from 10-25 seconds. I want to say it is WINWORD.EXE that may be
freezing up, but i don't know. As I post this I will watch the Task Manager
to see if anything funky happens to it.

Any thoughts? This is not harmful at least so far, but highly irritating.
For the record, I run Windows XP on a Compac Presario 1500 Laptop, 1.6 Ghz.

Thanks in advance. I just found this group; looks like a good one.

In Outlook, Tools>Options>Other and uncheck "Enable Instant Mess..." See if
that helps. If not, try running "Detect and Repair" from under the help
menu in Outlook.

Conrad,

I did those two things, and it didn't help. I then did what I should have
done to start with, and that is disable Norton Antivirus checking of
outgoing mail and that seems to have fixed it. So, I need to work in that
issue, unless someone here has an answer? I will upgrate ot NAV 2003 which
I've already purchased the upgrade, just haven't installed it yet. If that
does not take care of the problem, I will hit Norton over the head.

Thanks,

Glad you figured it out. I'm running Outlook 2002 with Norton AV 2003 and
have had no issues. Your mileage may vary, but it sounds like you might
want to try the 2003 Norton as you said.

Norton AV 2003 appears to have fixed the problem. The scanning outgoing
messages is not nearly as obnoxious as well. So, now when I send a message I
don't have to wait on it to come back.
