Winword.exe remains active in background

When I close Outlook 2002, winword.exe remains active in
the background (and uses a lot of system resources). How
can I shut down this program when Outlook 2002 is closed?
I use Windows XP Pro and Office 2002.

it should close automatically within 5 min, but if not, get knockout and
close it from the tray.
