Do you get a BITS failure message?

Are you using a laptop? There seem to be some driver issues with
them and many of these problems can be solved by installing in safe mode.

I'm getting the same result. All that is offered is the flavorless
error message: Updates were unable to be successfully installed. Here
are the updates that fail:

Security Update for Windows Media Player 9 (KB911565)
Security Update for Windows Media Player Plug-in (KB911564)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - March 2006 (KB890830)

I don't have a resolution for you, but thought you might like to know
that you're not alone.

I was able to get this items applied by running standalone installers.
Go here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Search.aspx?displaylang=en

....and search for the KB numbers to find those installers.

I am having a similar problem with an XP machine.
Last night I turned on Auto Updates and told the system to install them at
3AM. Strangely enough that worked and all updates were made.

Possibly your system will update things if automatic updates is available.

Are you on a network with a proxy server?

A bunch of people have been having problems with the windows
updates recently, I suggest you just wait for MS to fix it.
