I was ATTACKED by a nasty virus... well, I guess it was
nasty as it was the first one that I have been unfortunate
enough to experience. ANYWAY, I think that I have fixed
everything that was wrong EXCEPT Norton found that my
winupd.exe file is corrupt and that software is denied
access to the file. THEN to add insult to injury I can't
delete the file either! ACCESS DENIED. Anyone have any
suggestions for me? I am at wits end... it is keeping me
from being able to open some software packages. At least
that is what I think is keeping me from it. HELP!!!!!!!!

TIA!

Well, I appreciate the help and I think I may be stupid,
but this is what I did... Went to Task Manager, found the
process and ended it. Then I went to the file manager and
tried to delete the file. I get a message that access is
denied. I checked a couple of time to make sure it hadnt
started back up and it had not. I am sooooooo
frustrated. I have been working on this for 2 days
running Norton only to end up at this point... one
freakin' file messing my whole life up!!! OH, and added
to this is some HP share to the web nonsense that is
trying to upload Matrix and porno .exe's to the web.
Luckily I had never set it up to automatically log me in.
THAT I am sure would have been more embarrassment than I
am willing to handle right now!!! Right now, if I EVER
run into someone who had written a virus I might just
pummel them!!!!! But, I digress... any more words of
wisdom about eradicating this file???

You may have to start in the Safe Mode to delete this nasty.

[[To start the computer in safe mode
1 You should print these instructions before continuing. They will not be
available after you shut your computer down in step 2.
2 Click Start, click Shut Down, and then, in the drop-down list, click Shut
down.
3 In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
4 When you see the message Please select the operating system to start,
press F8.
5 Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and
then press ENTER.
6 If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation
that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.]]

Maybe, since you've paid for Norton, you might want to go here:
