my windows 2000 system is hanged up and it says that
winsrv.dll is missing. I have some important data on that
system. I have tried with boot disks, repair disk but
there is no result. Would you please help me out? I'll
look forward for your response.
thanks in advance..

Did you check if winsrv.dll exists in c:\winnt\system32?

To do so, do this:
- Boot your machine with a Win98 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com.
- Run this command: ntfsdos /L:G. You can get ntfsdos.exe from
www.sysinternals.com.
- Now check your hard disk for c:\winnt\system32\winsrv.dll

Note that files can be retrieved from your hard disk even if you
cannot get Win2000 to start.

About your important data: After you have resolved your current
problem, you might want to review your backup strategy. If your
data is important then you must back it up every week. If you
don't back it up then you're prepared to lose it in case of a
system malfunction; hence it cannot be important. The decision
is yours.

I tried this without success. The bootdisk created from
bootdisk.com returned "non system disk" errors when
inserted. Bootdisks created from the win2k cd did
nothing. Windows continues to reboot. Any other
suggestions. Thanks.

Put floppy first in boot order in BIOS settings.
