Don't know if this is the correct newsgroup, couldn't find one that really
match problem, sorry if it isn't.

I am using a dial-up connection connecting to MSN for my ISP. Connection is
made but no IP is issued to me. When I ping Yahoo.com I get " could not
open Winsock error 0 " or something to that effect. I ran ipconfig and
return 0.0.0.0 for everything. IP,DNS etc..

I searched Microsoft knowledge base but didn't find anything matching my
problem.

I really don't want to do a clean install if I can avoid it. Any way to
reinstall Windows Networking or whatever needed to rebuild Winsock? Any
other ideas would be greatly accepted.

Thank You in advance,

Ron D.

Do you have any security software installed, firewalls, antivirus, ad
blockers, popup blocking software any of which could be the source of the
issue. If you do have such software installed, try turning them off one by
one and see if you are able to connect after turning each one off. If yes,
you need to check the settings of the offending software to see if you can
get things going.
