Carl,
Go to
www.antivirus.housecall.com and run a complete virus scan, and do
everything it says in the order it says. Also, write down the names of the
virii, so that you do a google search to find out what the virus is about
from more than one source. You can also run the virus tools supplied by
other vendors. Do not leave anything out.
Do you have any form of virus protection now? If you do, you need to
uninstall it before intstalling Symantec's AV. Also, it is very important to
keep the definitions up to date. But probably the most important thing to do
is to "never" open any attachments unless you know for a fact it is virus
free. Even from people you know. You also can get virii of other types even
though you have an AV. Example is surfing around getting "free" things like
wallpapers, programs, etc. you will run across sites that will trick you to
installing some virii that the AV will not detect. Another example is from
sites that contain porn. They have a ton of popups and java type virii that
guide hackers to your computer to use it for sending spam and as servers for
piracy for mp3's, movies, etc.
You need a software firewall as well. And it wouldn't hurt to have a
hardware firewall as well, like a router.
The most important thing is to learn about what you can do to prevent
outside forces from invading your computer. This site may help

Have a Win2K pro workstation and was continually getting
pop-up messages telling me I had a virus (various files,
various viruses). Tried to install NAV2003 but can't get
it to install, getting invalid format when I click on the
CD drive in My Computer. Now winlogon.exe is driving the
utilization to 100% all the time. Any suggestions, do I
really have a virus??
Thanks,
Carl
