winlogon error

Hi,
When starting the computer I get an error message "winlogon.exe error" with
a choice of "ok" or "cancel".
In both cases the computer will restart and go through the same cycle again.
The only recent change I made was to install "dotnet framework".
How do I get rid of that error message?
Thanks,
AJS

Have you tried the options on the Advanced Options menu? Restart the
computer, as the BIOS splash screen disappears repeatedly tap the F8 key to
bring up the Advanced Options menu. Among the choices will be Last Known
Good Configuration, Safe Mode, and Safe Mode w/command prompt.

Try Last Known Good Configuration. If that gets you in remove that update
using Add/Remove programs. If LKGC doesn't work try the two Safe Mode
options. If the only one you can get into is Safe Mode with Command Prompt,
for the command line type in this command to open the System Restore applet,
and do a system restore to a point right before the update was added.

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Hi AJS,

Are you Running Windows 2000 or Windows XP?

The dialog box just pops up and says "Winlogon.exe error" with "OK" or
"Cancel " options? You aren't seeing a bluescreen (BSOD) afterward with any
error specific information on it? Have you tried logging onto your system
via the "Administrator" account in Safe mode?

I am running Windows XP Pro SP 2.
The error message is:

"winlogon.exe - Application Error"

In the box it says:

"The instruction at "0x0106b5a4" referenced memory at "0x0106b5a4". The
memory could not be written."
"Click on OK to terminate the program"
"Click on CANCEL to debug the program"

Clicking either "OK" or "CANCEL" will restart the computer.

Any suggestions to rid this loop?

Thanks,
AJS
