Bob,
Thats a link to the Y2K fix: Wfwy2kup.exe
I need Winfile.exe before I can fix it.

No it's actually a replacement for the old winfile.exe. I think you
maybe are used to seeing the bloated files that pass for programs today.

You do NOT need it !

Please learn how to use EXPLORER.EXE. It can do *all* that's needed.

How would U know what I need. Do this in explorer and I'll eat my words:
display multiple windows of files . . . .

BTW, I use a program called xplorer2 that usually fit my needs

I know because I have been using Windows since Windows v1.0 for the PC/XT.

WINFILE.EXE doesn't work under NT well. It doesn't handle long file nnames, deep
file/folder structures and is limited in it memory usage.

Just load Explorer and look at Drive "X:"
Load Explorer and look at Drive "Y:"

But the 2 Explorer views side-by-side and you have Winfile.

That long filename deal is a Windows 95/NT 3.5x thing, you can use
Winfile with Windows NT/2000 and long filenames aren't a problem. One
thing I can say about Winfile is that it can open a folder with 30,000
files almost instantly while Explorer takes what seems like an eternity
to open it. I have a folder structure 10 deep or so and each folder has
20 to 30,000 files, some folder have other subfolders with as many files
and I can tell you that Explorer needs 30 seconds and more to open the
deeper subfolders while Winfile opens them almost instantly. Explorer
does however speed up after the first read, but it is still slower than
Winfile...

See alt.binaries.warez.ibm-pc.old
This is the latest version that came with Windows NT, I forget the version.
It does support long file names.
